I was arrested with multiple felonies against me and a couple of misdemeanors. And I was facing up to 12 years in prison and 290 (sex) registration.

I first spoke to Dan at my first court date where he told me that he had already talked with the prosecutor and the judge and that we were not looking at prison in my case. I am only 19 years old so I was so relieved to hear that. I had never been in trouble in my entire life but unfortunately I was dumb enough to talk to a girl who was under age about the wrong kind of things – which got me into the most trouble I have ever been in my entire life.

I was in a tunnel that seemed like it was pitch black at the end. I was in jail for most of my court dates. My grandfather had passed away a few weeks before I was arrested and his funeral was coming up.  If it wasn’t for Dan I would have missed his funeral all together. But Dan was there for me the whole time – he got the judge to let me out for 2 days to attend the funeral.

All along the way Dan told me that he had a good feeling about what we could do in my case.  Dan and I knew that I was going to be convicted of some charges, but which ones? Dan was hell bent on getting me out of having to be a 290 (sex) registrant for the rest of my life – this was our main goal.  Dan met with me quite a few times while I was in jail and he always seemed to have some good news.  On my 49th day of being in custody I went into court planning to waive my right to have my preliminary hearing within 60 days, but instead DAN GOT ME RELEASED FROM JAIL!  Not only was I released but I was released the day before my birthday!  I didn’t know what to think or how to thank him.  I was so excited to just be out and back with my family.

On my first court hearing after being released the prosecutor was not there so we had to put it off for another month which I was okay with.  On my second court hearing after being released Dan got the prosecutor to agree to allow me to plead to two new (different) charges that would make it so that I would NOT have to register as a sex offender. And only one was a felony but the best thing about that felony was that it is a “wobbler” meaning it can be reduced to a misdemeanor in the future.  On the third court date after my release when we went to court to seal the deal Dan was able to get the prosecutor to agree to lower my felony to a misdemeanor after 18 months and to give me time served meaning NO MORE JAIL TIME!  He also got me NO SEX REGISTRATION.  And last but not least after my 3 years of probation I can get my record expunged!

Dan Koukol quite literally saved my life. I was facing multiple felony charges, sex registration and 12 years in state prison.  In the end Dan got me one (reduce able) felony one misdemeanor no sex registration and 49 days of jail time.  All of this with the possibility of it ALL going away in three years.

My daughter made a false allegation that I had abused her. This caused the child protective services to get involved and then the county prosecutor. Before I really even understood what was going on, my daughter had been removed from the house and I was being charged with a crime.

At this point, I realized I needed to hire an attorney. This was the first time I ever had to hire an attorney so I searched the internet for the best attorney I could find. I ended up hiring Dan Koukol.

When I hired Dan Koukol, he told me that he was going to have his investigator interview everyone they could that might help my case. He said would make appearances in court for me so I could continue with my life without this problem completely ruining everything.

Well that’s exactly what he did. Dan and his investigator worked on my case together for over 4 months. From time to time we would talk and they would fill me in on what they were learning.

He was arrested in early 2009 for a crime he did not commit. He was taken from his place of employment and booked on five counts of the most horrific charges anyone would ever want to face in our justice system. Now he would wake up everyday in a 4×6 cell, not knowing the fate of his future, and facing a possible life sentence for the false allegations made against him. Every 2-3 week period between court dates became what seemed like an eternity, but Dan was always there for us with some glimmer of hope and to remind us to stay strong through what would be the hardest thing we would probably go through in our lives.

Dan and his team were able to expose the truth and present it to the prosecutor. The results were AMAZING!

After five months of my fiancé enduring this horrible nightmare, Dan received a call from the District Attorney to let him know that he was dismissing the charges. A dismissal that turned out to be the only dismissal in the carreer of this D.A. The emotions were overwhelming for all of us including Dan and his team. Dan remained in touch with me right up to the very end that night making sure that my fiancé was released and coming home.

Dan and his team are truly heroes to us. There aren’t any words that can express our thanks and gratitude for all that he did concerning this matter.

I am certain that you would not be reading this unless you or a loved one has found themselves in a bad situation and are looking for a good attorney. We as human beings wouldn’t think twice about paying the best physician to save the life of someone we love, so why would we hesitate to pay, in order to have the best attorney on our side.

This was a shock to me as I was never in trouble with the law before.  I told him “I will not get out of here until my son is my age”.  I asked my family to find someone to help me because it was clear that the public defender was not going to. 

After looking through the yellow pages for a Sacramento criminal defense attorney, my family decided to talk with Dan Koukol.  He connected with my family and when he came to see me it felt like I really had somebody by my side through all of this.  As we sat down and discussed the case, he was positive that getting me a low term or even probation was possible. The District Attorney would not accept probation, but Dan did not give up. He eventually got the offer down to the low term which was three years, and I accepted it. 

I feel very grateful to have Dan Koukol as my attorney.  I feel he represented me to the fullest capabilities. It could have been 38 years had I not had Dan working so hard for me, but instead it is only 3 years.  Now I will return to my ranch and put the past behind me as I live life for my son.

One Sunday afternoon, my wife and I were watching TV in our home when a police officer knocked on the door and told me he had a warrant for my arrest and then took me to jail. I am 48 years old, and have no prior record whatsoever, I am happily married, with children and I have a very good job with several people depending on me at work.

As soon as I was arrested my wife looked for an attorney and found Dan Koukol. She hired Dan after talking with him. He was able to get started on my case very quickly because he was with me on my first court appearance – which was the same day my wife hired him. It was extremely important that I get released from custody immediately or I was would lose my job. 

At the time of my arraignment in court I was advised that I was being charged with three felonies (two of which were “strikes”) and I was looking at up to 12 years in prison. 

Dan was able to convince the judge to allow him to present evidence to support his request that I be released from custody at the earliest court date the court could accommodate. The court initially wanted to schedule the bail hearing the following week which would have caused me to lose my job. I could tell right away that Dan was going to help me because he assertively caused the court to reconsider and got me a bail hearing two days later. 

At the bail hearing, Dan had several members of the community come to court as a show of support.  He introduced them one at a time to the Judge. The Probation Department asked the court to keep my bail set at $100,000. At the end of the hearing the judge agreed to release me on my own recognizance, so I was out within a couple of hours and back to work that same day. 

After this, Dan met with me and the alleged victim in the case. After several discussions, meetings and court appearances Dan filed a motion to dismiss the case. He argued that the passage of time between the alleged incident and the date I was brought to court resulted in him being disadvantaged. In other words all the evidence was gone. 

Apparently it was a good motion because the prosecutor actually admitted that they made a mistake in my case and they agreed to dismiss the case against me. 

Dan Koukol gave me such a great defense and I absolutely recommend him to anyone who needs help.
